Instructions water slide decals

What do you need?

A sharp(!) pair of Scissors or craft knife - Bowl of Tepid water -  a lint free Cloth

Which decal paper

Decal paper has two layers: The decal itself and a backing paper.

There are two different kind of waterslide decal paper:

                                                                            Clear       and          White

Clear decals can be used on any white or light coloured object. It is a transparent decal.

On any other coloured object a White decal has to be used.

IMPORTANT:

IF YOU HAVE "WHITE"DECALS,

WAIT TO SPRAY YOUR RESTORED MODEL TILL THE DECALS ARRIVE.

TAKE THE DECALS TO A PAINTSHOP TO FIND THE BEST MATCHING COLOUR.

The designs can be cut out with a sharp pair of scissors or craft knife.

When you have waterslide a "White" decal,

be careful to cut around carefully or you will be left with a white border/edges around your image.

When you have a "Clear" decal a rough cut is sufficient.

Once cut out, place the decal in a bowl of tepid water.

Leave it up to 30 - 45 seconds.

Depending on the size of the decal.

Large decals up to 2 - 6 minutes

After 30 - 45 seconds gently feel the decal between your fingers. If you can feel the decal and the backing paper slipping, then the decal is ready to use.

Slip the decal slightly from the backing paper and lift out of the water. Shake the excess water and get ready to apply on your object.

At this stage do not take the decal off the backing paper or you will find yourself in a real mess. The decal will stick to it itself and this is very difficult to undo. ( If this happens, put the decal back into the water and try to replace the backing paper.)

Attach the slip of the decal to the surface and gently pull the backing paper away, leaving the decal to stick to the surface.

Once the decal has be attached to the surface, it is possible to move it around to the desired position.

At this stage the decal is very fragile!

Once you positioned the decal, use a lint free cloth to dab off the excess water and remove any air bubbles.

Leave dry for 3 - 5 hours.

The decal will become water resistant if you spray a thin layer with any type of acryl varnish.
